ABOUT US

COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
AGAINST A SHOCKOE BOTTOM STADIUM

We are a committee made up of organizations and individuals who oppose the proposal to build a baseball stadium in historic Shockoe Bottom, once the site of the second-largest slave-trading district in the United States.

The issue of the right of oppressed peoples to self-determination strikes the heart from many points: politics, justice, spirituality, community, history and legacy. Understanding this, we are committed to the discovery, preservation and promotion of the African history of Richmond, the U.S. and throughout the diaspora created by the TransAtlantic trade in enslaved Africans.

Our committee includes members of the Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality; African Ancestral Chamber; All As One; Collective X; I3ainbridge Collective; Flying Brick Library; Wingnut House; RePHRAME (Residents of Public Housing in Richmond Against Mass Evictions); the Church Hill Stadium Working Group; Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA & ACL); First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond; and other organizations and individuals.
