Christy Coleman TedXTalk "Milking Sacred Cows" including Shockoe Bottom
Christy Coleman is Co-CEO of the The American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar in Richmond. This talk was given in 2013.
I very much appreciate seeing this video on this site. I am visiting Richmond on vacation. Before we came here, I began to search online for historical sites dedicated to African Americans and the history of the slave trade in Richmond. To my surprise there was very little to see. When I began to read that the mayor and others want to build a stadium in Shokoe Bottom, I was livid! How dare this city, state, and nation attempt to brush aside the unattractive truth that gave way to the Civil War, SLAVERY. The Sacred Ground of Shockoe Bottom should be a National Park dedicated to the memory of those who suffered in that place.
